Remember Pastor Derek Reimer from Alberta? Back in February 2023, he was charged for peacefully protesting against a drag queen story hour for children in a Calgary Public Library. The performance is called "Reading with Royalty." Supposedly his crime was causing a disturbance, and he was forced to leave the premises. "Reading with Royalty" describes itself as "a family-friendly story time program featuring local drag queen, king, and monarch performers. Created to celebrate inclusivity, kindness, and self-expression, children are invited to dress in their best outfits or crowns to listen to stories and songs in a welcoming environment." Of course none of this "welcoming" stuff applies to those with different views like Pastor Reimer. In May of 2025, the case was tried. The verdict: Reimer was acquitted of all chargers. But the decision wasn't acceptable to the Crown. They appealed it and the case has been back in court since April 27 of this year. This is how the legal system in Canada …

I don't believe it's just the purring. I think it's also knowing we have someone who cares and wants to comfort us and keep us company. That I believe has a lot to do with it. Especially for the elderly who are alone with nothing but a pet. They are a great comfort for them. They bring a lot of love and happiness into the lives of most of us. Those who don't care for pets and believe we shouldn't own them or keep them outside miss out on a lot of things when owning a pet.
