Writing for IlGiornale.it, Nico Spuntoni says Bishop Sanguineti is now in “pole position” for the post following Gambetti’s departure. Other names floated in recent weeks include former papal master of ceremonies Archbishop Guido Marini, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Cardinal Rolandas Makrickas, Archpriest of the Basilica of St Mary Major.
