What about things that matter “much, much more”? “Does Pope Leo have the light, the will, and the courage” to reverse the “draconian restrictions” on the liturgy imposed through Traditionis Custodes and the “ongoing revolution” of the Synod on Synodality, Montagna asked. “Or does he feel beholden to those who elected him or to those who surround him?” While Leo repeatedly speaks of unity, Montagna asked “what he wants unity with.” “Does he want uniformity with the ideologies of the past pontificate, or will he allow us to return to the idea of reform in conformity with tradition?”

Leo XIV “largely continues the post-conciliar revolution,” Edward Pentin said October 3 at the Catholic Identity Conference in Pittsburgh. “Pope Leo… is very much a continuity figure, continuing the post-conciliar course mapped out by Pope Francis,” Pentin said. While Leo has “changed the tone for the better,” his improvements remain “largely symbolic and small scale.” Pentin said he has “often heard in recent months in Rome” that many around Leo “helped him get elected precisely so he might continue the revolution.” On Leo XIV’s emphasis on unity, Pentin said the pontificate has avoided many “neuralgic issues” by “essentially not talking about them.” He added that “what is unacceptable among the Church’s leadership is fidelity to the Church’s doctrine and tradition”. Writing for IlGiornale.it, Nico Spuntoni says Bishop Sanguineti is now in “pole position” for the post following Gambetti’s departure. On July 11, the Diocese of Raleigh hosted its first multicultural celebration honoring St. Kateri Tekakwitha - the first North American Indigenous saint - at Holy Cross Church. The gathering included discussions, music, and indigenous dances. Richard Duran, a member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe from Arizona, led a smudging ceremony, which the diocese described as sharing cleansing smoke “as an act of prayer and spiritual connection.” Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama was present and drew laughter when he said he would dance with his heart, not his body, because dancing to music can frustrate him. Smudging has nothing to do with St. Kateri. She left her indigenous community and moved to the Christian Mohawk community at Kahnawake, where she could freely live her Catholic faith.
